Rosies and the Red Wings
Both teams showed up and gave it their all... unfortunately Rosie O'Grady's and the Red Wings weren't able to bring home the wins. On the bright side at least the Rosie's didn't go into triple overtime and we were able to continue the night at Rosie O'Grady's in Ferndale to cheer our favorite hockey team on.
Here are some photos from out first game:

Great Job Lisa organizing everything!!!!!!! Great job coaching Brandon!!!

Rules
Adult Kickball Rules
2008
Current A. S. A. Softball Rules will govern kickball with the following emphasis and modifications
Points of Interest:
1. 2 Kickballs will be provided to each team by Oak Park Recreation Department & teams must bring 1 kickball to their game to be used.
2. A team consists of 10 field players (at least 5 must be female). A minimum of 8 players (at least 4 must be female) are needed to start and continue a game. Rosters may consist of up to 20 players. All players are eligible to kick, provided the batting order alternates between male and female players. If a male extra kicker is used, a female extra kicker must also be used. Male kicker may not kick consecutively. If male kicker does kick consecutively an out will be called.
3. Games are 7 innings or a time limit of 1 hour. Games will be played on a regulation softball field.
4. Innings will consist of three outs. Outs are made similar to that of softball; forceouts, popouts, strikeouts, etc. An out may also be made when a runner, who is not touching a base, is hit below the shoulders by a thrown ball that is in flight or bounces off the ground. A defensive player cannot kick the ball at a player to get them out. If the ball is thrown to a defensive player to get a runner out the defensive player must have control of the ball they cannot deflect it to get the runner out. Any ball that is thrown that hits a runner in the head will result in a dead ball and that runner and all other runners will be awarded one base. If runners are between bases when a dead ball occurs the umpire may award the base the runner was approaching and another base for the penalty. If excessive force is used when throwing the ball at a runner an umpire may eject that player. If a runner, in the opinion of the umpire, moves in such a way so the ball hits their head, a dead ball will be called and the runner called out. In this case all runners will be required to return to the base they last occupied.
5. The infield fly rule will be called. An infield fly is defined as follows: A fair fly ball, not including a line drive or an attempted bunt which can be caught by an infielder, pitcher or catcher with ordinary effort when first and second or first second and third bases are occupied with less than two outs.
6. A kicker must wait until a pitched ball is within three feet of home plate before attempting a kick. A 3 - 2 count will be used. A missed attempt or a foul ball will be a strike. Exception: If a foul ball occurs as the second strike an out will not be called unless the ball is caught in the air. A second foul ball as strike two will result in an out. A ball will be called on a pitch wider than one foot on either side of the plate, or a pitch that bounces more than one foot in the air during delivery (bouncy).
7. Three balls will result in a walk. All kickers who are walked will be awarded second base. All other players that are forced to advance due to the walk are awarded to advance to the next base. Please Note: The female will not automatically walk--they MUST kick.
8. Pitch Speed: The pitcher must roll the ball up to a moderate speed. If in the judgment of the umpire the ball is rolled too fast, the umpire will rule the pitch illegal and a “ball” will be called. (Note: The kicker may still attempt to kick the ball after an “illegal pitch” has been called. If the ball is kicked, it shall be declared “live” and the result of the play will stand.)
9. Bunting is allowed.
10. A runner who leaves the base before the pitch reaches home plate, or is kicked, is out and the ball is dead. Leading off and stealing are not allowed.
11. In order to prevent injury and protect the defensive player, a runner who remains on their feet or deliberately crashes into a fielder holding the ball, will be called out. If the offense is considered flagrant the offender shall also be ejected.
General:
1. Dress; all players must wear closed–toe shoes. Baseball or soccer cleats are allowed provided they have rubber, or molded plastic soles. No metal spikes or shoes with detachable cleats are allowed.
2. 10 minute grace period for 6:30 PM game times ONLY!!! All other games will be “Game time forfeits time” (No exceptions).
3. The manager, or team representative, must list the batting order (FIRST & LAST NAMES) prior to the start of the game. An easy way to keep track when you have an uneven number of Male and Female’s in the same line-up card, because the batting order MUST at all time be rotating males and females. First you must list the Males in one column and the Females in another column—Make sure the males follow the males and the females follow the females (always rotating female and male). Score sheets will be provided by the Recreation Department.
Example of the conversation in the dugout on who is up:
Roy Vultaggio: I will always follow Scott Pratt
Shawnie Stamper: So than I will always follow Erika Pratt - sounds easy enough…
Roy Srini: So that means I will always follow Roy Vultaggio with a different girl inserted in front of me.
WHO IS UP!!
Scott Pratt: I am
Erika Pratt: I follow Scott Pratt since I am the first girl listed, but after this first time I will NOT follow him because of the uneven amount of players. So I will always follow Simone Smead from here on out w/ some guy that will be changing ever time.
On the 3rd out before you leave the dugout MARK which gender made the last out. Than MARK the male and female that last batted, so when you come back in you know where to start.
EXAMPLE
Line-Up Card
Male Female
Scott Pratt Erika Pratt
Roy Vultaggio Shawnie Stamper
Roy Srini Jen Schumann Chris Riley Simone Smead
4. Teams should always hustle before and between innings, as a time limit is in effect.
5. First and last names must be printed on the score sheet (no nicknames please).
6. No Scorekeepers: Teams must keep their own score and the winning team must report the game to me (Cristin).
7. Reporting Win/Loss: Teams should verify with the umpire and the opposing team at the end of each inning and make sure the SCORE and who won is correct. The WINNING TEAM is responsible for reporting the score and who won to Cristin Spiller by calling 248-691-7576, or by email to cspiller@ci.oak-park.mi.us within 24 hours after game ends (Monday night scores must be reported by 8:00 am on Wednesday, Friday night scores must be reported by 8:00am Monday). Scores that are not reported will result in zero points being awarded to both teams. In the event of a protest, consult the umpire of that game. Protests will be accepted and considered in the following matters only:
· Misinterpretation of a playing rule.
· Failure of an umpire to apply the correct rule or penalty for a given violation.
· Player eligibility.
Notification of intent to protest must be made to the umpire, & opposing team, at the time of the incident, before the next pitch. Player eligibility may be protested in writing until 3:00 pm the following business day of the game. The fee to file a protest is $25.00.
8. Full Game: A full game will consist of 7 innings, however no inning may begin after 55 minutes has elapsed from the time the game began. In the event of rain, darkness, or a 10 run difference (mercy rule) exists after 5 innings, a game will be declared official.
9. Injured Runner: If an accident or injury to a batter prevents them from proceeding in the game, a substitute runner of the same gender may enter the game. If there is no same gender player (if female), then an out will be recorded with the team reaches that point in the lineup.
10. Substitutes: All Substitutes must be of the same gender. Substitute runners must be of the same gender and be the last out or at least not due up to kick for a while. If the player that has substituted to run turn comes up to kick than that player will have to leave the base and take an out (No substitute can be used at that time to replace the substitute).
11. No infield practice is allowed after the first inning.
12. Males and females do not have to alternate defensively, but there does need to be an equal number of males (3) and females (3) in the infield, and in the outfield; 2 males and 2 females. The pitcher and catcher are considered infielders and may be of the same gender provided all other rules are followed. Teams may play with more female players than male players.
13. Outfielders will be required to begin every play with both feet completely on the outfield grass. If an outfielder who is on the infield dirt before the pitch is kicked (illegally positioned) catches the ball before it hits the ground, a dead ball will be called and the kicker will be awarded first base, all other runners will advance one base whether they are forced or not. If the illegally positioned outfielder makes any other play on the ball, a delayed dead ball will be called. In this case, if the batter reaches first base and all other runners advance safely, the ball shall continue to be in play. If the play results in an out, before all runners have advanced safely at least one base, a dead ball will be called and all runners will be awarded one base.
14. Infielders will be required to stay behind the encroachment lines along 1st and 3rd base. Once the kicker touches the ball than the 1st and 3rd base players can cross the encroachment lines. If a player crosses the encroachment lines before the ball is touched, a “NO PITCH” will be called and that pitch will be immediately called a ball.
15. Pitchers will be required to stay within the circle until the kicker touches the ball. Once the kicker touches the ball than the pitcher can leave the circle lines. If a pitcher crosses the line before the ball is touched, a “NO PITCH” will be called and that pitch will be called a ball.
16. Catchers MUST stay behind the kicker at all times. If catcher interferes with the kicker than the kicker will automatically get first base.
17. Umpire decision on calling “Time” when either the pitcher of another defensive player has the ball within the pitching circle.
19. Umpire Fee: Each team is required to pay an $11.00 per game Umpire Fee prior to each game.
a. Failure to pay the Umpire Fee will result in forfeiture.
b. The Umpire Fee must be returned to each team in the event of a weather postponement, before a game is official. (Oak Park will pay the ump for showing up)
d. TEAM, WHICH WINS BY FORFEIT MUST PAY THE UMPIRE FEE BEFORE THE GAME IS COUNTED AS A “W”.
20. Base Jockeying once the ball has been controlled by the defense and to keep the players from tempting the defender to throw the kickball at them. The Defense can get the ball to the pitcher within the circle to stop all play from happening and all players must return back to the base once the ball was thrown to the pitcher circle.
21. All PLAYOFF GAMES will be played to their conclusion.
All teams in the Monday Night Div & the Friday Night Div. in the league based on standings/points will advance to a Season Ending Tournament. (Win = 2pts, Lose = 0pts & Tie = 1pts)
In case of a tie in points during regular league play – the League Champions & League Standings will be decided on the following procedure:
1st - Head to head competition, between the teams that are tied.
2nd - If that doesn’t decide, than total runs between the teams tied are calculated and the team with the highest runs will clinch the league or position in standings.
3rd - If that doesn’t decide, than total runs scored for ALL games will be calculated and the highest run total will clinch the league or the position in standings.
4th - If that doesn’t decide, than a game will be played between the teams that are tied.
Rules are in place, so when it comes to questions from players, coaches, umpires & sometimes spectators we all can be on the same page. I took into consideration rules from previous years & issues
that surfaced last year and combined them into this year.

GOOD LUCK TEAMS!!!

I finally got the schedule from Oak Park. Our first game is on June 2nd at 6:30pm sharp. We are on a new field that we have not played on in prior years so make sure you take a look at the directions for returning members. I will send a reminder as we get closer.
There is also a small box with some general rules on the schedule. It explains the times. I have asked for an electronic copy of the official rules to send out. If I don't get them, I will make copies for those of you who want them. I will email the few changes at a later time.
Don't forget to bring your $20 to the first game. They should be bringing our t-shirts to the first game, but it would be good if we could all wear navy shirts if possible.
I am going to plan a practice for the Wednesday before we start (June 28th) since Monday is Memorial Day. Please let me know if you are interest and available to practice. I will pick a field and a time based on who can come. Most likely we will meet around 7pm on the 28th.Please let me know if you are interested in practicing and if you have any other questions. I will be in touch with more details soon.
Thanks,Lisa
